FAQs
CLICKS, or CLEO Legally Inspired College Kohort of Students, is a law-related mentoring program that promotes academic success, and college and career readiness. Its goal is to increase adolescents’ knowledge of the impact the law has on their everyday lives. We empower underserved youth to see beyond their current circumstances through consistent, healthy interactions with caring, compassionate adults.
The Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), national non-profit organization that was founded in 1968 to expand opportunities for minority and low-income students to attend law school. CLEO’s mission is to inspire, motivate, and prepare students from underrepresented communities to succeed in law school and beyond, with a sincere focus on diversity, inclusion, and greater equality.
Simply put, most of us understand the importance of giving back and that we would not have gotten to where we each are in life without the assistance, support, and guidance of others. And because mentoring relationships are “symbiotic,” not only will you be helping an underserved youth when you serve as a mentor, you will also end up aiding your own emotional well-being. Lastly, in these unprecedented times of social distancing, there is a real need for students to connect with competent and caring professionals who can assist them in navigating the brave new world they will be encountering in the future.
Aside from putting his/her heart into it, we ask that all mentors are at least 25 years of age and able to pass a national criminal background check that includes scanning the sex offender registry. Please note that the background check is completed at the time of your application and is of no charge to the prospective mentor.
At a minimum, we respectfully request a one-year commitment to serving as a CLICKS mentor.
CLICKS mentees are at-risk and/or diverse youth between the ages of 11 and 17 years of age. The program is open to everyone, but, per the stated U.S. Department of Justice grant guidelines, an emphasis is placed on recruiting African-American males to participate.

The CLICKS E-Mentor Café App (CEMC), is our attempt to reach youth in a manner for which they are mostly accustomed to communicating, virtually. While also reducing physical barriers faced by busy attorneys and other professionals interested in mentoring (geography, in-person interactions, scheduling conflicts, etc.), the CEMC app offers a safe and engaging space to interact and is accessible on smartphones, tablets, and computers.
Great question! As of 2020, according to the latest data, there are roughly 3.5 billion smartphone users in the world. More importantly, this number is expected to more than double to 7.33 billion by 2023. The U.S. accounts for 260 million of the 3.5 billion and has a larger smartphone penetration (79.1%) than any other country in the world. According to Common Sense Media, teens spend an average of nine hours a day online compared to about six hours for those aged eight to 12. So, plainly speaking, to be an effective and viable program, we must reach our youth where they are…in cyberspace!
Absolutely! We will provide mandatory and elective virtual trainings, housed in the CEMC App; along with additional tips and resources to assist you. Trainings will be ongoing and consistent, and support from CLICKS staff is always available as requested.
Once a profile is completed, we will attempt to make a match within two business days. A push notification will also be sent out via email alerting a mentor of a new match.
After your CLICKS application and background check has been submitted and approved, you will receive an email link to download the app, along with the “Invite Code” to get registered.
No, it isn’t. However, while most of these questions are optional, please note that all responses are used as matching weights to calculate the best possible match pairing. So, in the end, answering these optional questions can turn out to be beneficial for everyone involved.
We understand professional and personal obligations/responsibilities will always take precedent; however, we do ask that mentors commit to meeting virtually with their mentee at least once a week for no less than an hour.
