CLEO Issues Call for Nominations for 50th Anniversary Celebration

Nationwide Effort to Honor Individuals, Law Schools and
Legal Organizations Contributing to Diversity and Inclusion

     Largo, Maryland, December 1, 2017—The Council on Legal Opportunity, Inc. (CLEO) has opened its call for nominations for the CLEO EDGE Awards for its 50th Anniversary. The Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at the Ritz-Carlton, Washington, DC. The awards will recognize and honor 150 individuals, law schools and legal organizations that have made significant accomplishments or demonstrated commitments to Education, Diversity and Greater Equality in the legal profession.

“Diversity and inclusion are not just buzz words for CLEO,” said Cassandra Sneed Ogden, CLEO’s CEO. “For almost 50 years our mission has been to increase the numbers of lawyers from diverse backgrounds who are actively contributing to the legal profession. We have made significant inroads, but we have much more to be done. These awards are our way of acknowledging our partners and others who have notably contributed to diversity in the legal profession.”

The CLEO EDGE Awards was created to shine a spotlight on individuals, law schools and other legal entities in the following categories: 50 for Education; 50 for Diversity; and 50 for Greater Equality. Nominees will be announced at one of three receptions:

Education nominees in Houston on April 26th;

Diversity nominees in San Francisco on June 5th; and

Greater Equality nominees in New York on September 12th.

Final honorees will be recognized at the anniversary gala in Washington, DC, on November 15, 2018.

To be considered for an award, the nominator (or nominee) must complete the online application, which can be found at www.cleoinc.org/50/50-for-50.
