Judge Robert T. Jackson, Jr. currently serves as an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in the Social Security Administration, assigned to the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review, Atlanta Downtown Hearing Office. He was appointed as an ALJ in October 1997. Judge Jackson, a native of Detroit, MI, is a product of the Detroit Public School System and a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School, Class of ’65. Judge Jackson received a B.S. in Multidisciplinary Social Science from Michigan State University in 1969, and he received his J.D. from University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law (then the University of Detroit School of Law) in 1972. As an undergraduate, he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Judge Jackson began his legal career as an officer in the United States (U.S.) Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAGC). He is a graduate of the JAGC Basic Course and JAGC Graduate Course (an ABA recognized LL.M. equivalent). He served 20 years as a JAGC officer. During his Army career he served as a defense counsel, trial counsel, senior defense counsel, deputy staff judge advocate, a staff judge advocate, and as a military judge. He served overseas in Germany in the 1st Brigade, 3d Infantry Division. Stateside, he had assignments at Fort Bragg, NC in the XVIII Airborne Corps and the 82d Airborne Division, Fort Devens, MA, and at Fort McPherson, GA. As a military judge assigned to U.S. Army Trial Judiciary in Falls Church, VA, he presided over general and special courts-martial in the Military District of Washington, Virginia, Maryland, as well as trial terms in Panama. Judge Jackson retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and received an Honorable Discharge. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Ribbon with one Service Star, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Senior Parachutist Badge.

Prior to his appointment as an Administrative Law Judge, Judge Jackson served as a legal advisor at the Georgia State University College of Law Tax Clinic, and as an Administrative Hearing Officer in the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Judge Jackson is a member of the Georgia and the Michigan Bars. He has been admitted to practice in the U.S Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Michigan, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He is also a member of the Association of Administrative Law Judges. Judge Jackson is married to Peggy Hanna Jackson, a retired educator, and they have one son, Christopher Jason Jackson.
