what your current (or former) legal job entails |
Investigate, research, and litigate complex litigation involving access to public records, law enforcement surveillance technology, Fourth Amendment Search and Seizure, First Amendment freedom of religion, inmates’ rights to disability and religious accommodations, in-person parole hearings and due process, and English learner students’ rights to basic equality in education. I have argued in state trial court, federal district court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and when appropriate, develop publications with Know Your Rights information and/or identifying best practices. As a result of my litigation, I have had the opportunity to draft training for the Barstow Police Department and prepare training for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department on inmates with disabilities. |
the impact CLEO made on your student and/or professional life |
CLEO surrounded me with other ambitious, like-minded individuals who were ready to hit the ground running in law school. It helped me get into the law school mindset and it motivated me to get ready to study more than ever. It exposed me to legal analysis, and because of CLEO and its support network, I was persistent during my law school experience, I had successful district court and court of appeals clerkships after law school, and I have been able to achieve my dream of becoming a civil rights attorney in my community. |
