Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Inc. Presents 52nd Annual

Pre-Law Summer Institute June 15 – July 12, 2020

The Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson Law Chosen to Host National Diversity Seminar

Largo, MD—October 10, 2019—CLEO, the Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Inc., the longest-serving national organization committed to diversity in the legal profession, has chosen The Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to host its 52nd annual Pre-Law Summer Institute, June 15 to July 12, 2020. The Pre-Law Summer Institute is CLEO’s core program and has been operated continuously since 1968.

This CLEO annually-sponsored, intensive pre-law summer institute is designed to introduce students to the skills, knowledge, and values essential to their success in law school, including self-directed learning, legal reasoning, writing, and the Socratic method of teaching.  Sponsored and staffed in cooperation with participating law schools, the institute exposes students to the rigors of the first-year of law school.

“We are pleased that Penn State Dickinson Law will be our host for this important seminar.  This is the first time in decades that the law school has been the host,” said Cassandra Sneed Ogden, Chief Executive Officer of CLEO.  “And we welcome the opportunity to partner with the oldest law school in Pennsylvania and one of the oldest law schools in the country.”

“The opportunity to host CLEO’s Pre-Law Summer Institute furthers Penn State Dickinson Law’s commitment to creating opportunities for diverse pre-law students,” said Jeffrey A. Dodge, Associate Dean of Academic and Student Services and CLEO’s Pre-Law Summer Institute Director in summer 2020.  “Dickinson Law is proud to support an accomplished national pipeline program designed to increase access to law school for applicants and diversify the legal profession.  Under Dean Danielle Conway’s leadership, we hope hosting PLSI is just the start of many future law school-sponsored pipeline programs.”

As a part of the PLSI, participants will also take part in an online synchronous seminar, “Developing Law School Literacies,” to be held June 1 – June 12, 2020.
